Fall Trends

There are two looks I’m loving for fall – all black & white, and bringing sweet pastel hues into the cooler months. I think black & white (with a little grey) is such a classically fall and winter look, and I honestly tend to gravitate towards this safe bet. But one thing that I’ve noticed is that pastels are slowly creeping their way into people’s fall wardrobes, and I kind of dig it. Pale pink cashmere and a cream vest sound like pretty cozy alternative to harsh, deep hues. What do you think – which of these trends is your fave?

Fall Staples

There are certain pieces that I think every girl has to have in her fall wardrobe regardless of where you live. My list includes a comfortable (yet chic) sweater, a beanie, the perfect riding boots, sassy booties, versatile pants, a classic trench, a chic blazer, a comfy tee and the perfect tote. I put together an extensive list of my fall favorites below (I spent many nights online shopping compiling this list… I know, my life is tough) – I hope you guys have fun shopping for my favorite season! I made sure to include both high and low price points so that there is truly something for everyone.

In my wardrobe at least, white, grey, tan and army green are classic neutrals in the fall months. I love solids but I also love adding a simple stripe or a sweet embellishment.

Beanies are a tricky thing to master – you have to find the perfect one for your head that lays just right. Some people just aren’t beanie people, which is why I included a head wrap too – I love them because if you make sure to cover your ears, they keep you nice and toasty!

I truly couldn’t live without riding boots in the fall or winter months – I wear them almost every day and they instantly spiff up an outfit. It’s such a classic accessory that requires little to no thought!

Booties are the best to turn a day-time outfit into a date-night one – you can throw on booties and automatically have the perfect going out outfit!

I typically stick to dark denim and black, but this fall I’m so tempted by all of the lighter hues that are popping up everywhere. I love metallic grey, light denim, tan and army green – plus you can never go wrong with a comfy pair of slouchy pants paired with some booties!

Screen Shot 2013-08-29 at 2.59.45 PMBurberry // Coach // Michael Kors // Steven Alan

A classic trench is something no girl should go without. While I absolutely swoon over the Burberry classic, I also love the idea of a slouchy, oversized trench that resembles menswear. Tan, black and red are all great options!

Blazers add that polished element that some outfits just need – I throw them on over almost anything to make an outfit extra special. I love blues and blacks, especially when paired together!

Screen Shot 2013-08-29 at 3.14.18 PMJ.Crew // Rag & Bone // Proenza Schouler // Markus Lupfer // Burberry // Rag & Bone // Calypso // Madewell

I’m not going to lie, I love a classic tee. I feel most comfortable in a tee, leather pants, booties and a cool jacket. Stick to neutral or graphic tees because they go with everything and can be dressed up or down.

Screen Shot 2013-08-29 at 3.18.34 PMMichael Kors // Tory Burch // SLP // Fendi // Givenchy // Miu Miu

When it comes to bags, I’m known to be excessive. I just can’t help myself – if you’re going to splurge, it should be on a timeless bag (but that Michael Kors looks expensive at a great price)!

I hope you love all of my fall picks – I’m so excited for the cooler months! Happy shopping, and more importantly Happy Friday!

The fact that mother’s day and the end of the school year fall at the same time means one thing: I am broke, and I have no money to spend on a fake holiday, no matter how much I adore my mother. DVF Home

I’m moving in to a new house next year – my first home of my own – and I’m very excited. Of course, once I had signed the lease, my first thought was, “How am I going to decorate?!” I recently decided upon a beautiful Diane von Furstenberg Home duvet cover and big lavender Euro shams, which are to die for. Here are some of my favorite DVF Home pieces.

Spring Trends that Disappoint

Fashion websites around the globe have recently put out their “Spring Trend” Guides, and not to be a Debbie Downer, but come on. If I see one more post about how florals and pastels are “in” for spring, I’m going to throw a BF (Bitch Fit). Florals and pastels have been “in” for spring since spring was a season, people don’t need to be told that mint green and floral prints that belong on grungy couches are super stylish for the season that revolves around Easter, budding flowers and all things frilly. While yes, they are cute, (note my previous post on Topshop and their brights for spring), they aren’t a “trend” for this season. They are an expected part of this season- doesn’t mean you can’t wear them, just means people don’t need to be told it’s cool. I want to see things that aren’t expected, things that your average person walking down the street wouldn’t say is an upcoming trend- so here is my list of spring trends (note: you won’t find anything eggshell yellow or paisley on this list).

Ankle Straps on thick, chunky platforms.

Peplum tops, skirts, dresses, and everything else.

Round, mod sunnies.

Chunky, bright jewelry (Loving this JCrew statement necklace!)

Boxy or oversized jackets, like these from Paul & Joe Sister and Diane von Furstenberg.

Everything oversized- like these shorts, blazer, and clutch from Diane von Furstenberg's Spring 2012 line.

Transparency- like these Marc Jacobs Spring 2012 Heels.

Sleeveless blouses, like this J Brand number for spring 2012.
